Meet Our Founder: Tien Stafidas

Behind every great dance brand is a story, and for Upstage World, it begins with a proud dance mum.

Tien Stafidas founded Upstage World in 2024 in Sydney, Australia, inspired by years spent supporting her daughter through the rhythm of dance life - rehearsals, competitions, studio hours, and everything in between. As a parent immersed in the dance community, she noticed something missing.

Dancers had studio wear, but very little they could comfortably wear from the studio to the street.

That simple observation sparked an idea.

Where Dance Meets Fashion

With a 10-year background in creative interior design and a natural eye for style, Tien set out to create a brand that blended function, comfort, and fashion for dancers.

Her vision was to design clothing that supports the real lives of dancers - pieces that feel just as natural in the studio as they do after class, travelling to competitions, or hanging out with friends.

From that idea, ‘dance fashionwas born.

Today, Upstage pieces are designed with the real lives of dancers in mind. From statement tops like the Diva College Crop Top, to movement-friendly staples like the Multi Twist Unitard and the Exposed Elastic Parachute Pants, every garment is made to support dancers both in and out of the studio. 

Designed for the Way Dancers Live

Upstage garments are carefully tested to ensure the right fit, comfort, and durability for dancers who live active, creative lives.

From versatile crop tops to studio staples like tights, unitards, hoodies, and parachute pants, the brand’s collections are designed to move with the body and keep up with demanding training schedules.

This philosophy continues through ranges like the After Class collection, which captures that moment when class ends but the dancer’s day continues.

Designed with Purpose

Sustainability is also central to Tien’s vision for Upstage. The team prioritises eco-friendly materials wherever possible, and the brand’s organic cotton range has quickly become a customer favourite.

But the brand’s mission goes beyond clothing.

Upstage World proudly supports the Blue Dragon Foundation, helping provide dance education to homeless and trafficked children in Vietnam. Through these initiatives, dance becomes a tool for empowerment, healing, and hope.

A Brand Built on Community

At its heart, Upstage World reflects Tien’s belief in unity through movement. The brand exists to empower young dancers with apparel that helps them feel confident, comfortable, and ready for wherever dance takes them.

What started as one dance mum noticing a gap in the market has grown into a brand supporting dancers on and off the stage.

And the journey is only just beginning.
